We also gained considerable insight from the conference talks and the networking CDU provided. During this visit, we benefited a great deal from discussions with academics, students, Indonesian enthusiasts and staff of the Indonesian Consulate in Darwin. We thank Charles Darwin University, especially the conference convenor, Dr Nathan Franklin, for such a warm welcome and for giving us the opportunity to launch the book. Donald Cant Watts Corke have been engaged by Tonkin Consulting to carry out Cost. The Northern Territory Government is undertaking a planning study to realign and upgrade Gunn Point Road and determine its connection to Glyde Point in the north and the Stuart Highway in the south.

According to Professor Shoesmith, the book provided insightful and up-to-date research on land and development in Indonesia. The book was launched during lunch at CDU Indonesian Garden by Professor Dennis Shoesmith, who had attended the 2015 Indonesia Update Conference in Canberra. Members of ANU Indonesia Project, Associate Professor Greg Fealy and Dr Ross Tapsell, attended the book launch and spoke at the conference. The event showcased Darwin’s connections to Indonesia through history, politics, education, language and culture. This conference brought together academics, researchers, teachers, and students of different disciplines to discover new information and recent developments concerning Indonesia. The Understanding Indonesia Conference was attended by approximately 100 people. The 2015 Update Book, Land and Development in Indonesia: searching for the people’s sovereignty, edited by Kathryn Robinson and John McCarthy, was launched in Australia for the first time at Charles Darwin University (CDU) in Darwin during the Understanding Indonesia Conference on 17-18 June 2016.
